Welcome to the AHS Guidance and Counseling Website
The purpose of the counseling program is to support and meet the needs of all of our students. Our program is a collaborative approach with input and support from teachers, students, parents, and community representatives. Our comprehensive counseling program facilitates student development in four broad areas, Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support, which are aligned with the State Standards for School Counseling.

Registration - Schedule Changes
If you need a schedule change you may pick up a schedule change form in the front office. If you have already requested a schedule change you may pick up your new schedule in the front office. Schedule changes will not be accepted after the first week of school.

Texas State Unversity/San Marcos
Scholarships:
National Merit Finalists receive an award of $40,000-$10,000 per year for up to four years. National Achievement Finalists and National Hispanic Scholars receive a $2,000 renewable award that is potentially an $8,000 total value. In addition to these natioanl programs, the President's Honor and Texas State Achievement Scholarships are assured to all admitted students who meet the criteria. The President's Honor Scholarship is an award of $20,000-$5,000 per year up to four years, while the Texas State Achievement Scholarship is $10,000-$2,500 per year for up to four years. Our mechanical engineering program is expressly tailored to prepare gradutes for leading roles in the 21st-century mechanical engineering, whether that involves working in renewable energy, biomedical devices, robotic systems or any of the numerous other areas in which mechanical engineers are doing cutting-edge work. Texas Southern University/The Honors College
Eligibility and Admission Requirements: The selection process for acceptence into the Honors College is very competitive and students' applications undergo a thorough review. The sooner the application is submitted, the greater the chances are the applicant to be admitted to the college. First-time freshman applicants must meet or exceed the following standards:
* A completed Honors College application
* One-page typed biography/academic resume
* 3(total) letters of recommendation preferably from English, Math, Science instructors.
* Original one page essay on "How you feel the Honors Studies will Increase the Values of Your Undergraduate Education"
*Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and/ or American College Test (ACT) scores.
* A or B+ average.
* 4 units of English.
* 2 units of Natural Science.
* 2 units of Social Studies.
* 3 units of Mathematics (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and/ or comparable sequence)
* Leadership position held.
* Special honors received.
Because the Honors College is commited to developing the next generation of leaders, strong consideration will also be given to students with demonstrarted leadership ability, diverse community and extracurricular activities.
